Climate cannot be seen as a separate pocket of issues

03 Nov Climate cannot be seen as a separate pocket of issues

As world leaders gather in Glasgow for COP26 to discuss climate change issues, Associate Professor Simon Tay, Chairman of the SIIA, weighed in on why ASEAN needs to come together as a region.

“Climate cannot be seen as a separate pocket of issues, but a major facet in the road to recovery, for both the world and Southeast Asia,” said Associate Professor Tay.

He added, “COP26 is the global call of concern. This must be supported by regional action, and ASEAN needs to establish leadership and coordination on climate action. Cutting across ASEAN in its Security, Economic, and Socio-Cultural Communities, we need our own ‘ASEAN Climate Community’ to scale up.”
