SESSION I: Global Economic Crisis: Implications to Regional Economic Cooperation
The current global economic crisis started with the collapse of the US sub-prime financial market and has caused the worst economic recession in the US and worldwide since the Great Depression in 1930s. East Asia economies were adversely affected due to its export-dependent on the US economy, notwithstanding of the region economic dynamism, good macroeconomic policy and huge amount of foreign exchange reserves. In planning for the post-global economic crisis, what is the role of regional cooperation in making the region more competitive and resilient in promoting growth through increasing intra-regional trade and investment and regional demand.

SESSION II:  Global Economic Crisis: Implications to regional arrangement and the Role of the USA
Key discussion point: The aftermath of the current global economic crisis will inevitably weaken the US financial resources and its capacity to project its military power in the Asia-Pacific and other regions. At the same time, Asia has become a major foreign policy focus of the new Obama administration. As a result, a new security alignment and configuration will emerge in the Asia-Pacific region in the face of rising China and India, nuclear-armed North Korea. What will be the emerging security arrangement and alliance in East Asia and the role of ASEAN?

SESSION III:  New Approaches and Opportunities for Taiwan in East Asia Economic Integration
Key Discussion Points: Since the election of President Mah Ying-Jeow in May 2008, he has vigorously initiated and implemented economic policy aimed to foster closer economic cooperation with China countries in the region. This policy aims to promote a comprehensive economic partnership agreement with China and a closer economic cooperation with ASEAN. In this context, what will be the implications to ASEAN Plus Three, EAS and APEC?
