After decades of war and state controls, Vietnam has emerged as one of the most exciting investment destinations in Asia and ASEAN. Despite its growth potential – many favor Vietnamfor its high quality and highly motivated work force, huge tourism potential and reserves of oil and gas – Vietnam remains a difficult business environment. There are some concerns, such as corruption, the pace of reforms in some sectors, and the strength of its financial system.
In this closed door dialogue, Dr Dinh engaged directly and candidly with a small group of SIIA members, providing insights on Vietnam’s economic prospects. The dialogue was moderated by SIIA Chairman Associate Professor Simon Tay. The CIEM is the best known economic think tank in Hanoi, and reports and advises the Vietnamese Prime Minister and government on economic policy. Dr Dinh, as its president since 2002, oversees all of CIEM’s work and authors the annual overview of the Vietnamese economy published. Prior to his appointment at CIEM, Dr Dinh served in the Ministry of Planning and Investment as Director General of Investment Legislation.
