The New Stage of Asian Economic Integration

The New Stage of Asian Economic Integration

Date/Time: Jun 26, 2006 / 8.30am-2.00pm
Venue: Four Seasons Hotel

The SIIA and Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) are pleased to invite you to the above seminar that looks into East Asia’s New Stage of Economic Integration.

East Asia’s economic integration is entering a new stage. The region’s leaders met in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, this past December for the ASEAN+3 Summit and East Asia Summit, where they exchanged views on further integration, including the possible creation of an East Asian community.  The keys to furthering East Asia’s integration include:
- Sustaining ASEAN’s stable growth, while keeping its unity and competitiveness
- Resolving China’s structural problems—which put sustainable development at risk
- The US presence in the region
- Emerging India
- The role of Japan, whose economy is on a strong recovery track.

In this seminar, under the theme “A New Stage of Asian Economic Integration”, keynote speakers will address these points from their perspectives and talk about the road to integration and its challenges. Following the keynote speeches, a panel discussion will examine the roles of participating countries, in particular Japan, as the region enters this new stage of integration.

Registration will be on a first-come-first-served basis.
