The Dialogue on Trade Policy, Climate Change and Sustainable Development for the Asia Pacific Region was held on 6‐7 Nov 2009, co‐organized by the Singapore Institute of International Affairs (SIIA) and the International Centre for Trade and Sustainable Development (ICTSD) of Switzerland.
The dialogue discussed various aspects of the relationship between trade policy, climate change, and sustainable development, as well as the role that APEC can play in shaping the issues. Three main sessions were convened for discussion: "Addressing Climate Change through Liberalization of Climate Friendly Goods And Services: Will urgency Spur APEC into action?", "Aiding Implementation of Adaptation Measures to Address Climate Change", "Unilateral Trade Measures To Address Leakage and Competitiveness”. The dialogue also featured a moderated session which discussed ideas for APEC, titled "Testing Ideas within the APEC Laboratory: A Roundtable Discussion on Selected Issues”. The dialogue was attended by more than 30 government officials, policy makers, civil societies and academics from APEC countries. The programme, and a complete list of participants is attached at the end of this report. A summary of the key issues discussed is presented in this brief.
