Vietnam: Leading Asia in FDI

Updated On: May 11, 2009

A recent report of the UNCTAD on world investment has put Vietnam as the leading Asian country in attracting foreign direct investment (FDI). Foreign capital pledged to projects in the country have tripled to US$64 billion in 2008. UNCTAD attributed Vietnam's position to new tax policies aimed at turning poor provinces in the Mekong Delta with low-cost production centres, and the opening of the Vietnamese retail market.
