Vietnam: Joining the nuclear energy club?

On September 3, the Prime Minister of Vietnam announced the formation of a State council to assess the feasibility of a nuclear power plant project in the province of Ninh Thuan. The Electricity of Vietnam and other relevant agencies are expected to finalise their proposals and appraisals for submission to the National Assembly for approval.

The PM has also requested that the Ninh Thuan authorities develop infrastructure in preparation for building the nuclear power plant construction once the project is approved by the National Assembly.

The 4,000 MW nuclear power plant is expected to be commissioned in 2020.
