Disposed Thai Prime Minster Thaksin Shinawatra issued a handwritten statemen in London last week after he missed his flight back to Bangkok to stand trial, weeks after his wife Pojaman Shinawatra was convicted by the Thai Criminal Court for tax fraud.
He informed the Thai judiciary and all his supporters that he would not come back in the near future to stand trial on the corruption and malfeasance charges brought against him.
He cited several reasons for his latest decision not to return home, including double standards and death threats. He also suggested that the current fiasco could be attributed to his political enemies and hence the need for him and his wife to” stay in England where democracy is more important”.
The court has since issued an arrest warrant for him and his wife and they remain fugitives.
