Thaksin’s Lawyers in Jail

Updated On: Jun 28, 2008

On Wednesday 25 June, the lead lawyer and two aides of former premier Thaksin Shinawatra were imprisoned for six months for attempting to bribe a Supreme Court judge with a candy box stuffed with two million baht (approx US$60,000).

Former premier Thaksin on Thursday supported the court decision and said he would continue with his own trial on corruption charges.

The ruling comes just weeks before the Supreme Court is expected to hear a case accusing Mr Thaksin and his wife, Khunying Potjamarn, of using political influence to buy land in 2003. They face up to 13 years in prison if found guilty.
