Standoff in Bangkok

Updated On: Jun 23, 2008

Even after the large protests in Bangkok at Government House, Prime Minister Samak Sundaravej said on Saturday he will not resign.

Mr Samak has been tight-lipped - and reportedly angry. He said on Saturday he will go to work at Government House as usual on Monday, and will talk to the country about the tense dispute on his regular weekly TV show Speaking in Samak's Style at 8:30 on Sunday morning (0130 GMT).

The People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD) which led the protests said their encampment at Government House will continue until Mr Samak resigns.

Some fear a violent confrontation could result, which would provide impetus for the military to consider staging another coup.
