ASEAN considers single tourist visa for region

Updated On: Mar 18, 2011

ASEAN is working on a plan that would streamline tourist visa requirements for the 10-country bloc, which received 65 million tourist visitors in 2009.

ASEAN acknowledges the initiative could take several years to introduce. But Tourism Authority of Thailand governor Suraphon Svetasreni thinks it would benefit all countries in the region.

"One of the major concerns of the industry, as well as visitors, is the
difficulty of obtaining visas, a series of widely differing regulations
and information needs for visas," states ASEAN's strategic plan.
