Indonesia commits to ratifying haze agreement in 2011

Indonesia has given its word that it will ratify the ASEAN Agreement on Transboundary Haze this year, said Singapore's Minister for the enviroment and water resources Dr Yaacob Ibrahim at the conclusion of the 11th Ministerial Steering Committee on Transboundary Haze pollution held in Singapore.

Indonesia is the only ASEAN country that has not ratified the 2002 agreement. Its State Minister for the Environment Gutsi Muhammad Hatta says that the Ministry's has set a target of reducing hotspots by 20% per year and that Indonesia, currently the world's 3rd largest carbon emitter, will bring down its emissions 26% in the next 10 years.
