Five of ASEAN's ten member countries have started an ASEAN corporate social responsibility network to be based in Singapore.
The network will be made up of representatives from Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand. The other five member countries will join over time.
The goals of the ASEAN CSR network are to encourage networking and sharing of CSR practices among its members, and push for international standards and guidelines for CSR to be implemented region-wide.
Singapore's Senior Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Zainul Abidin Rasheed said that "ASEAN has developed economically over the past decades, but to do our traditions and cultures justice, we have to consider developments on other fronts, not just the economic one."
