China targets FTA talks with India

Updated On: Dec 14, 2010

Mr Wen Jiabao is set to visit India this week, which will be the first to India by a Chinese premier in four years. Chinese officials have indicated they hope to have free trade discussions.

Though economic interdependence between the two Asian giants has grown, the countries remain suspicious of each other, with clashes over their long-disputed border, China's relationship with Pakistan, and fears of Chinese espionage.

Analysts say India will be reluctant to agree to any deal, for fear that China would dump goods in the Indian market.
