China, US narrow differences on climate change

The New York Times reports that the rift is narrowing between the United States and China on climate change issues at the Cancun COP16 Summit.

The most significant breakthrough has been on the issue of emissions verifications, which the Times calls a "major factor in torpedoing last year's climate negotiations in Copenhagen."

Jairam Ramesh, India's environment minister, was the one who tabled the proposed compromise, which has received broad acceptance at the talks.
