Asia-Europe conference begins amid China-Japan row

Asian and European leaders kick off three days of meetings focused on climate change, trade, and the aftermath of the global financial crisis.

Leaders will meet in Brussels for the 48-member Asia-Europe meeting, which includes the 27-nation uopean Union, the thirteen members of ASEAN Plus Three as well as India, Russia, Australia and others.

The meeting comes shortly after Chinese premier Wen Jiabao pledged to support Greek sovereign debt. It precedes the final preparatory meeting in Tianjin forthe United Nations climate talks this November in Cancun, Mexico.
