He acknowledged that "safety aspects, human resources and the location" must be examined when building this first plant, and that the final decision on whether the plant could be built or not would be determined by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
However, PM Najib Razak seemed to indicate on his blog that the plan was not a definitive one, and that officials were still studying the possibility of nuclear power.
Malaysia's plans follow a number of Southeast Asian countries' plans to build nuclear power plants, including Thailand, Indonesia and Vietnam.
