Amongst discussions on adopting strategies for economic growth and a 'common clause' on climate change, the ASEAN leaders discussed the venue for the 2011 summit.
Originally the meetings are held by countries in alphabetical order, Brunei being next in line. Foreign Minister Marty Natalegawa said that Indonesia is hosting the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum in 2013, the same year it is expected to host the ASEAN summit. Jakarta wants to give full attention to the ASEAN summit and has therefore changed its plans and will host the next summit in 2011. Brunei and Cambodia (host of 2012 summit) have both agreed.
Although Indonesia's membership in the G20 has sparked worry amongst some, saying that 'Indonesia has a new club and a new home', the latest meeting in Hanoi, shows indonesia's commitment to ASEAN and its future growth.
