Oct. 13 (Bloomberg) -- Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd has appealed to Indonesia’s president for help in preventing an influx of Sri Lankan migrants, the British Broadcasting Corp. reported on its Web site.

Rudd asked during a phone call over the weekend for the Indonesian authorities to help prevent a boatload of Sri Lankan migrants from reaching Australia, the report said. The boat was carrying 260 Sri Lankan asylum seekers, the report said.

Indonesia’s navy intercepted the boat off Krakatoa before escorting it to West Java, the report said.
