SIIA chairman Simon Tay has been appointed to represent Singapore in a two-year Vision Group for the Forum for East Asian and Latin American Countries (FEALAC).
His participation, requested by The Singapore Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), will require Associate Professor Simon Tay to provide expertise on how the Forum should keep pace and grow with private sectors in a time of global financial crisis.
Real trade and economic relations between the two regions have grown despite vast geographical distance and different cultures. The FEALAC began from an initiative led by Singapore, and is an official and regular dialogue channel association for 32 key economies in the East Asia and Latin America regions.
Associate Professor Tay will bring his experience on international and regional groupings to the discussion, having previously been involved in various Asian and ASEAN eminent person groupings. He has also visited many Latin American countries and speaks basic Spanish.
