The SIIA extends a warm welcome to new Senior Fellow Pushpanathan Sundram, former Deputy Secretary General of the ASEAN Secretariat for ASEAN Economic Community. Mr Pushpanathan will speak at the (AEC) CIMB ASEAN Conference in Kuala Lumpur on 13-14 June.
At the conference, Mr. Pushpanathan will be a panelist at the session on "Bringing ASEAN Together: The Missing Links" on 13th June as well as a panelist at the CARI Conversations on 14th June.The CIMB ASEAN Conference is a gathering of ASEAN business stakeholders and serves as a platform for the sharing of opinions and perspectives on regional issues. It draws participation from ASEAN''s leading corporates and regional investment professionals from both debt and equity markets.
Pushpanathan Sundram (Nathan) served as the Deputy Secretary-General (DSG) of ASEAN for ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) from January 2009 to March 2012. He was the youngest and first professionally recruited DSG in the history of ASEAN following the coming into force of the ASEAN Charter in 2008.
During his time as DSG, he directed and coordinated the building of a highly competitive and globally integrated ASEAN Single Market and Production Base with equitable development by the year 2015.
He was responsible for forging economic partnerships and free trade agreements with ASEAN’s Dialogue Partners and East Asia-wide economic integration initiatives involving ASEAN, Australia, China, India, Japan, South Korea and New Zealand. He also established and directed the operations of the high-level ASEAN Integration Monitoring Office (AIMO) in the ASEAN Secretariat, which monitors ASEAN economic and finance integration.
