The SIIA joined leading think tank experts to discuss future prospects for free trade in East Asia. Amidst the global financial crisis, many of the experts from Japan, South Korea, India and ASEAN urged Asia to continue to develop their own regional efforts to liberalize trade and link their economies. Some however cautioned against the proliferation of efforts, concerned about dissipation and duplication. The dialogue held in Kuala Lumpur by the Japan Economic Forum and ISIS Malaysia, was opened by Malaysian Trade Minister Muhyiddin Mohammad Yassin. The SIIA was represented by Dr Hank Lim, Director for Research, and Chairman Simon Tay.
