The SIIA joined some 300 experts and academics to discuss current and emerging issues of peace and cooperation in the region. The 21st Asia Pacific Roundtable was hosted on 4-7 June 2007 by the Institute of Strategic and International Studies (ISIS) of Malaysia, an SIIA partner in the ASEAN Institutes of Strategic Studies, and opened by Malaysian Prime Minister Abdullah Badawi. The Roundtable discussed both particular conflicts like those in the South of thePhilippines, the Korean Peninsula and Timor Leste as well as broader concerns such as the dialogue between the West and the Muslim World and the development of different groupings inAsia and the Pacific. The SIIA was represented by Dr Hank Lim, the SIIA Director for Research, and Chairman Simon Tay. Dr Lim spoke on the region’s financial situation ten years after the crisis of 1997. Prof Tay spoke on climate change as it concerned economic growth and security.
