07 Feb 07 - SIIA chairman, Simon Tay, represented Singapore at the 2nd meeting of experts and eminent persons for the ASEAN Regional Forum, held in Manila on 5-6 February. The meeting focused on security issues in Northeast Asia, including North Korea and the dangers of nuclear proliferation. The meeting of EEPs was opened by the Foreign Secretary for thePhilippines, Alberto Romulo. Tay spoke on ways to institutionalize security dialogue and cooperation in the ASEAN Regional Forum, to support the Six Party Talks in North East Asia. The EEPs first met in South Korea in 2006, shortly after the SIIA organized a caucus of members from ASEAN member states. The SIIA also provides SEAPSNET to all EEPs to help draw their attention to current and emerging trends in the region.
